William Albert Coleman, M.D.

After receiving his Medical Doctor degree from Instituto Superior de Ciencias Medicas de la Habana in Cuba, Dr. Coleman trained as a general surgeon.  Dr. Coleman served for two years as Chief of Surgery at Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital in Belize City, Belize. He is a member of the Belize Medical and Dental Association and the Belize Medical and Dental Union.  He currently practices general surgery in Northern Regional Hospital, Orange Walk Town, Belize.

Teri Park Kim, M.D.
Adjunct Professor

Dr. Kim holds a Bachelor of Science in Psychobiology degree from University of California Los Angeles.  She graduated with a Medical Doctor degree from Loma Linda University.  Dr. Kim, a licensed physician, will complete a Family Practice residency and be board eligible in July 2007.  While a student physician, Dr. Kim perfected her academic leadership skills as the president of Loma Linda University’s Family Medicine Interest Group and developed her community leadership skills as the liaison for Loma Linda Veterans Hospital Stop Smoking Program.  Her work at Kaiser Permanente Woodland Hills Hospital has presented many academic and professional opportunities.  Dr. Kim is the co-founder of Kaiser Woodland Hill’s Prenatal Continuity Clinic and is a contributing author to a clinician’s resource textbook.  She speaks English, Korean, and Spanish.

Kent Novelo, M.D.

Dr. Novelo received his Medical Doctor degree from Universidad Nacional Autonoma de Honduras in Honduras, Central America, and his Pediatrician Specialist degree at Escuela Militar de Graduados de Sanidad, Universidad del Ejercito Y Fuerza Aerea in Mexico.  He has participated in trauma and disaster management seminars, courses on pediatric cancers, and workshops helping physicians increase the availability of medical care to mothers and babies.  He is a published author and his professional memberships include the Honduran College of Physicians and the Belize Medical and Dental Association.  Dr. Novelo is currently Head of Pediatrics at Northern Regional Hospital in Orange Walk Town, Belize, and he practices pediatrics at Northern Medical Specialty Plaza.

Romeo A. Pavlic', M.D., M.P.H., M.I.M., M.R.S.
Professor

Dr. Pavlic’ received his Medical Doctor degree from Universidad Autonoma de Guadalajara and completed a fellowship in cardiology at Loma Linda University. He founded a multi-physician cardiology practice in the Pacific Northwest. Having practiced cardiology in the United States for over 25 years, Dr. Pavlic’ has an extensive network of clinical opportunities for IMU students. He has been involved in clinical research and has taught University of Washington students and residents. Always an inquisitive student, Dr. Pavlic’ completed a Master of Public Health degree at Loma Linda University, a Master of Arts in International Management degree at Whitworth College, and a Master of Arts in Religious Studies degree at Gonzaga University. He has lived in many countries and speaks English, German, Spanish, and Croatian.

Tiana Pavlic', M.D., M.S.M.E., F.E.
Professor

Prior to studying Medicine, Dr. Pavlic' earned a Master of Science in Mechanical Engineering degree at the University of Washington. Her involvement in biomechanical research prompted her to pursue a Medical Doctor degree from Loma Linda University School of Medicine.  Throughout her academic and professional career, Dr. Pavlic’ has actively participated in engineering and medical research and is a published author.  She is a licensed physician who has done postgraduate training in Internal Medicine, focusing on cardiac care and becoming certified by the American College of Cardiology in cardiac CT angiography.  As IMU's Academic Dean, Dr. Pavlic' has designed the curriculum using rigorous academic standards.  She speaks English and Spanish.

Miguel R. Quetzal, M.D., F.A.C.S.
Adjunct Professor

Dr. Quetzal received his Medical Doctor degree from the University of Montemorelos.  After studying general and laparoscopic surgery at Hospital Regional Primero de Octubre, he served as Chief of Surgery at Northern Regional Hospital, Orange Walk Town, Belize. Dr. Quetzal has received additional training as a fellow in hand surgery at Universidad de Medicina, Hospital Fructuoso Rodriguez. He was on staff at IMU’s Bethesda Medical Centre from 1999 until 2006.   Dr. Quetzal speaks English and Spanish.

Jose Enrique Samos M.D.
Professor

Dr. Samos received a Medical Doctor degree from Universidad Autónoma de Queretaro.  He practiced pediatrics and general medicine at San Ignacio Community Hospital for six years before moving to Corozal Community Hospital, Corozal Town, Belize.  Dr. Samos has completed extensive continuing education in HIV/AIDS care, rheumatology, hematology, and pediatric cardiopulmonary resuscitation.   He speaks English and Spanish.

Manoj Thrithalapat, M.B.B.S., D.N.
Professor

Dr. Thrithalapat, a specialist in neurology and neural science, earned his Bachelor of Science in Medicine and Bachelor of Science in Surgery degree from Dibrugarh University and his D.N. in Neurology from the University of Vienna. He taught neurology and internal medicine at the University of West Indies and the University of Netherlands.  He has served as a staff internist and neurologist at La Loma Luz Adventist Hospital and joined Bethesda Medical Centre staff in 2002.  Dr. Thrithalapat speaks English, German, Dutch, Spanish, Creole, Hindi and many Indian dialects.
